Disclaimer for the Japanese Literature Home Page

The default encoding for the pages on this site is UTF-8 multilanguage encoding. This makes it possible to use macrons to represent long vowels in transliterated Japanese. As a general rule when giving titles, Japanese titles come first, followed by an English translation in parentheses; italics are used to indicate the titles of all Japanese works, whether novels or short stories. Japanese names are given in the usual Japanese order with the surname first, except for those writers conventionally referred to by their literary names or sobriquets.

This site makes use of cascading style sheets, JavaScript, and dynamic HTML, and is best viewed at a resolution of at least 800 x 600 pixels. The use of a suitably advanced browser is highly recommended. Recent versions of the major browsers are necessary on non-localized operating systems to view the Japanese that appears in the author index and (eventually) on other pages.
